Little Wren Farm is a small farm in Missouri. We love growing naturally and providing nourishing food with a focus on flavor and unique and heirloom varieties.

All produce is grown naturally without the use of herbicides, pesticides, or other chemicals. We grow all of our crops in an organic manner; however, we have chosen not to pay for the USDA certified organic seal because this would incur extra costs that we believe are unnecessary and would have to pass on to our customers.

We farm using sustainable farming practices and are committed to the following:

Using no herbicides
Using no pesticides
Building healthy soil

So what does that mean?

No herbicides:

We control weeds with a thick layer of mulch such as hay, straw, grass clippings, and/or leaves. These natural mulches improve the soil over time and create a healthy environment for beneficial earthworms and microorganisms which boost soil health, fertility, and aeration.

No pesticides:

Within nature there is a natural balance of good bugs and bad bugs, and crops benefit from this healthy balance in many ways. For example, some of the good bugs keep the bad bugs from taking over and eating the crops while the other good bugs help pollinate. Pesticides disrupt this natural balance and hinder the important work of the pollinators.

At Little Wren Farm we cooperate with nature’s natural good bug/bad bug balance by providing a healthy habitat for the beneficial insects. We use no sprays, organic-approved or not, that would harm any of the beneficial species.

Healthy soil:

Nutritious food starts with nutrient rich, healthy soil. Healthy soil makes healthy, robust plants. Healthy, robust plants are stronger to resist plant diseases and insect damage.

We grow in raised beds to reduce soil compaction and facilitate strong root growth.
We enrich our soils with our own homemade compost and a healthy application of mulch that decomposes in place with the help of our friends, the earthworms. Both mulch and compost add organic matter to the soil.

Soils that are rich in organic matter are able to hold more nutrients for longer periods of time than soils that are lacking this important component.

Grown with love and care

Everything we sell is grown on our farm with love and care. The food we grow for our customers is the same food we serve on our table every day.
